It’s sculpture-meets-architecture-meets-performance installation. With a title borrowed from a Cheech and Chong album and a Beastie Boys lyric (artists not typically associated with the Met), Big Bambú is a beautiful enigma: randomly constructed, yet rigorously tested in collaboration with architects and structural engineers; earthy, yet manmade; complete, yet always unfinished. It’s a crazy concept, and a challenging one to manifest in photographic form.
